The Outpost Ship is more a flying building then a real ship. You can use this ship to colonise an uninhabited planet. As soon as you colonise, the ship lands, and becomes the outpost you see in the finished buildings list on your planet building page. When you deploy the outpost ship, your new planet gets these resources and buildings to start:

The Invasion Ship has only one very specific use: invading hostile planets.
It has very poor armour and fleet drive, and with all the expensive soldiers in the fleet it's very important that you provide enough fleet cover for this ship.
It can carry 40,000 
Soldiers.
The Colonisation Ship is very expansive, and allows you to colonise an uninhabited planet. Its advantage is that your new planet will already have:
